ATTENTION RTX3060 12GB Card holders Running HiveOS (testing needed on glitch)

Hello fellow 3060 12 gig card holders. There may be a way to get FULL mining ETH on HiveOS with more than one card due to a glitch. I noticed it happened a few times, but was not able to replicate it. but thanks to

adamram 3060 with risers : What to mine? - #21 by adamram We may be able to figure out how to do it.

So if you have this card(s) try this, and post What version OS/Miner/Drivers you are using if you are successful and perhaps we can write up a sure way to hack this glitch.

1> Boot with 2 miners set (3060 for autolykos, others for ethash), you can apply this before or right before Hive start mining. (note: I have got it to work with CFX rather the autolykos)

2> Wait about 1-5 minutes until 3060’s fan indicator drop to 0%, this maybe caused by the OS/driver lost connection to the fan sensor. But seems it also make the hashrate limiter won’t work, so I believe the limiter is initiated by the driver.

3> After 0%, then I change flight sheet to which only 1 miner (Gminer in my case) and the 2 working miners are stopped and Hive started Gminer. Most of the time, 3060 started to mine ethash at 49,44 MH/s and the rest also at their hashrate. (I have had it work with TTrex too )

Sometimes 3060 won’t mine because Gminer said it doesn’t connect to GPU0 (3060), so if this happened I just back to the flight sheet with 2 miners again until it started to mine. Without waiting until 0% (because it’s already at 0%), I back to 1 miner flightsheet again. It always started to mine at full hashrate. This second tries is always works, never have to try more than twice.

I use previous driver that I forgot which version, and this 455.45.01 is the newest AFAIK. But, this glitch seems works with previous or newer one.

My 3060 don’t use dummy nor plugged in to monitor. My monitor connected to onboard’s HD Graphics 510.

Yes, it is on a common 1x riser, even the 16x slot is v2, not v3. For now, the riser connected to PEG 16x slot (my last empty slot) lol. I can’t plug 3060 directly to mobo because it eats other 1x space, so I have to use a riser.

Let me know if this works for you, and please post your results, tips for getting the glitch. One other note; IT seems once the glitch happens, you can’t update the 3060’s OverClock settings, so be sure to set them before hand… Cheers and happy mining.

Good initiative rickc!

I tried several times with no luck. Let’s hope we can find the way.

I spent a couple hours testing & have tried many different configurations to enable this glitch without any luck. I haven’t been able to get the fan to drop to 0 no matter what I try. A fresh reboot was done between every test. Here are all of my different tests / variables.

All tests were done with this card:
Card: GeForce RTX 3060 12053 MB · EVGA
Memory: Samsung GDDR6
Bios: 94.06.14.40.45

All tests were done with this flightsheet, which enables nanopool / ERGO mining on the 3060. (I don’t know if anyone can do anything with my wallet addresses, so I blacked them out):

All tests were done repeatedly with the following variables:
Card plugged directly into 16x PCIe slot
Card plugged into 16x to 1x powered riser
Card connected to monitor
Card disconnected from monitor

Hopefully we can somehow find the magic trick that unlocks these cards’ full potential in HiveOS.

When I do a Google search for “3060 hiveos fan bug”, I come up with a few hits where people are experiencing this 0% fan bug on a variety of 30 series NVIDIA GPUs.

Looking through the results, it appears that many of the users report a potential link between the riser card and the bug.

I’m starting to wonder if a particular riser is needed to activate the bug…

(EDIT)
I posted on all of the above HiveOS threads to see if I can get some info from the users reporting the issue.

Also, I have a new batch of risers coming in today. I will test with those & report back.

I received my new risers & as promised performed a bunch of testing to report back with.

There is a glaring difference between my cards & adamram’s:

  1. adamram has NVIDIA 3060
  2. adamram has BIOS 94.06.14.00.A2
  3. I have 2x EVGA 3060
  4. I have BIOS 94.06.14.40.45

I don’t think I’m willing to take the risk to try downgrading the VBIOS to adamram’s version. I’m not even sure if that version exists for my card.

Hello joejoe,

Great job! Unfortunately no success at the end.

I have the PNY 3060 with BIOS 94.06.14.00.A6 connected directly to the 16x slot in the motherboard. When I change FS mining from ERG to ETH with that card I got the 0% fan for some minutes, around 5 minutes. But the difference I see with adamram’s scenario is that he is mining ERG at 122mhs. In my case is jumping between 60 and 75mhs. Like if the limiter is already present while mining ERG. Of course no luck for me neither. So, the 0% fan is not related with the riser, IMHO.

I though to change the bios as well, but not sure about. I’m sure sooner or later we will have a better solution.

Regards,

Right now I’m running

Kernel 5.4.80-hiveos
0.6-203@210512
NVIDIA driver 455.45.01

I notice that the bug seems to happen when I shift from one flight sheet to another. Mine takes 15-20 minutes at least, not 2-5 like most.
Sometimes I edit the overclock… I cant’ seem to MAKE it happen, but it seems to happen at random. I have a temperamental R390 that makes me reboot all the time, so I can’t seem to lock it in to make it worth while… I may just pull the R390 or put it in another rig.

I haven’t noticed the bug happen since I’ve upgraded to 0.6-203@210512… So I may roll back…

I haven’t switched risers, so I can’t speak to them helping or hurting.

That’s an interesting point you make regarding the ERG hashrate. I also only see the 60-75mhs when mining ERG. I never hit the 100+ numbers that adamram reports.

I agree about changing the vbios, it’s a risk that may give us no reward.

I’m actually working on building a couple Windows machines right now to run my 3060s in until some type of workaround is discovered in HiveOS.

Rickc, those are interesting notes. I’ve never waited 15-20 minutes after switching flight sheets.

2 Questions
– What hashrates are you seeing when mining ERG?
– When you successfully get the bug to work, are you seeing a higher hashrate on ETH?

I don’t mine ERG. I tend to mine CFX, ETH, RVN, and FIRO on occasion. I’ll check my wallets and see if I can set up ERG, but it never shows up as profitable for my cards on WhatToMine.com

EDIT
I don’t mine ERG, I was saying user [adamram] does. I’ve only had this glitch happen 3-4 times and I’ve been trying to find out how to make it happen, rather than having it happen by chance.

Understood. Thanks for the reply.

I’m really dying to get this glitch to work. I’ve currently got my OC settings configured to this:
Fan 0, Core 1400, Mem 2800, PL 140

I’m seeing just shy of 27mhs on both of my 3060s with a power usage of about 80 watts.

I would not set your fan to 0… the fan reading zero is to let you know the glitch took place. You should also get some type of error in the HIVEOS website about your OC settings… then it will appear in the Cards area , then lastly in the minor settings after a few refreshes.
I’ve added a screen shot with crappy drawings showing you how it happens.

See how where I labels 1st has gone to zero, but what I have labeled 2nd, has not… You have to refresh and wait for the 2nd to hit 0%. Once it does, you can switch the flight sheet to mine ETH.

***EDITED *** To add more clarity.

3060 improvement with lolminer 1.29. We are getting close to the 50mhs!

rickc, thanks for the info! While I was testing, I was setting the fan to 85 to match adamram’s setting. When I finished up with testing, I set it back to 0 to enable the auto-fan. I’m not sure if there’s a better way to use the auto-fan function though…

Anyways, It’s interesting to see that you don’t see the fan drop to zero in the spot you have marked 2nd (crappy drawing or not, it’s helpful)

I excited to see @Lorenz29’s post tonight. I ended up setting up lolminer1.29 and got a big improvement in my hashrate on 1 of 2 3060s. The other 3060 didn’t want to start mining at all using lolminer, so I’m running gminer on it.

Looks like I’ve got more troubleshooting & testing to do in the next couple days.

Yeah, I tried the lol miner, but no improvement for me.

For those who have this card, check the latest update of HIVEOS/LOLMINER read more in the changelog and the lol link.

It says it works with 455.45.01, but maybe I’ll put 460.39 in.

***** EDIT***** using 460.39 up’ed my MH to the mid 30’s … I’m trying to find the best OC for it… as it has crashed a few times with my current OC.

Rickc, I ran into the exact same problem with using 455.45.01 based on their information. Once I switched to 460.39, it took right off.

I have a rig with the folllowing cards;

1x2060
1x2060 Super
1x3060
1x3070

All of the cards are using 1 flightsheet and I’m mining ETH with nsfminer. I’ve read about the hashrate unlocker withe Lolminer and would like to use the 3060 with this. Is it possible for the 3060 to mine with Lolminer and the rest of the cards remain mining with nsfminer?

If so please could someone help me with how to set this up or point me in the right direction?

Thank you.

Lolminer have parameter –devices 0,1,2,3,4,6,7. In your case is -devices 2 in lolminer if your 3060 is 3rd card.
I don’t know nsfminer and I didn’t find parameters description for it online . I suppose that nsfminer have similar parameter too. Check it.
