P8Z77-V LX ASUSTeK - Won't start when 6th GPU is installed

Hi,

I have the below motherboard, cpu & psu

Motherboard
P8Z77-V LX ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. (0401 02/14/2012)
CPU
4 × Intel(R) Core™ i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10GHz AES
PSU
2000w Mining PSU

I have two “4 Port PCIe Riser Adapter Board” with 5 gpus. When I attached the 6th GPU the system won’t start, I have swapped the gpus around to see if one of them was faulty but they all work fine it’s just when all 6 are together.

When I have only 5gpus running I have entered the bios setting on startup to see if there is anything disabled and everything looks like it’s enabled.

Do some motherboards have a limit on the number of gpus you can have installed?

Many motherboards will only support x amount of gpus. Especially dated ones without mining optimized settings. That’s why mining specific motherboards are popular.
