I am using a biostar mining motherboard which has just 6pin connectors for power in ( and power out to the gpu’s ) I must be confusing something power wise because i nearly smoked the whole rig. Using 2 power supplies do i need to seperate what powers what? It seems to cause issues if i try to use 2 power supplies to power the mobo, but if i power the mobo with 1 supply and then use one supply for the gpu’s everything is fine. Can someone please advise on this? I am thinking about going with 2 server power supplies with break out boards and having 1 supplying power to the mobo and 1 supplying power to the gpu’s since powering 8 gpu’s will likely put me well over the 1kw power i can get out of 1 power supply ( in the USA also, so 120v )
You never want to plug any power supplies onto the same plane as each other, best to keep them completely seperate with the card/riser powered by the same gpu, but on a mining board power the slots with one and dont mix power from more than 1 psu per card, power up aux psus first as well
