Mining ERGO with Vega 56 & 64

Sapphire rx vega 64 refrence / blower, water cooled now.
Haven’t had any issues out of it.
Get 50mhs on srb miner on nicehash.
Has samsung memory according to gpuz

you using windows ? or hive ? or something else ?

I’m current using hiveos, teamredminer, trying to mine ergo, hive is what im trying to tweak.

My first post above was me using nbminer in windows but it was 300watts:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::joy:

And still vega 64 bios, can’t charge that currently

try memory tweak
amdmemtweak --CL 20 --RC 36 --RP 11 --WR 14 --CWL 8 --FAW 12 --RAS 20 --REF 65535 --RFC 248 --RRDL 6 --RRDS 3 --WTRL 9 --WTRS 4 --RCDRD 12 --RCDWR 12

miner are blowers also…

Here is my limited understanding of SocMhz:

  • It seems there are certain auto preset levels it likes: 960, 1028, 1106
  • If you set MemMhz to 965, SocMhz will auto adjust to 1028. If you set MemMhz to 1030, SocMhz will adjust to 1106
  • It must be above or equal to MemMhz, otherwise it will push down MemMhz by 100. eg. if you limit SocMhz to 845 and set MemMhz to 847, your MemMhz will be forced down to 747
  • SocMhz can have a big impact on power usage, which is why you limit it for efficient setups

ok , so if the MEM is below 900 it goes to 960 anyway cause thats the preset. theres no lower than 960.

So for me to get lower watts i have to lower the VDD and see when it crashes - if i want to stay at the same MHS levels im hovering around. OR i drop the mhs and VDD to have less hash and power consumption?

VDD:
Yes if you are stable try reducing the VDD to lower power usage.

SocMhz:
If MemMhz doesn’t impact your MHs too much you can reduce it to 847, and then set SocMhz to above 847 true clock. eg. my SocMhz true is 10 mhz less than HiveOS setting, so I have to set SocMhz to 860 for it to show 850 true.
I think lower SocMhz might reduce power usage by about 5W.

P-States:
Apparently there are further power savings by using p-state, but I have not tried it: teamredminer/AUTOLYKOS_TUNING.txt at master · todxx/teamredminer · GitHub

i hadnt realised - i wasnt running the mem tweak with the RTP - 5 setting does that matter > ive put it on now to see what happens/// so far i have not notice a difference…

@ss-silver in reply to --RC 36 / --RC 37 I also experience a similar outcome in fact I’m sure the cards that were hashing lower are still hashing lower 170’s-180’s (silicone lottery ?)
The change to lower – RC 36 took some of my cards to 190.4 MH with no change on Watts, however most get up to 189 MH
At some point I might start to play with the VDD/MEM on these lower cards, any suggestions?

Dream rig

Try this settings…

I have a nitro+ 64 flashed to a 56 nitro+

Core 1440
vdd 915
Memory 960

Fan Auto (51º-66º)
or
70% (42º-58º)
see what’s best…

straps:

amdmemtweak --CL 20 --RC 36 --RP 11 --WR 14 --CWL 8 --FAW 12 --RAS 20 --REF 65535 --RFC 248 --RTP 5 --RRDL 6 --RRDS 3 --WTRL 9 --WTRS 4 --RCDRD 13 --RCDWR 12

Mine get around 203.1MH/s

I have a pulse (samsung)
with the same straps…
only difference is in Core:1450
And get around 204.3Mh/s

@Zr7s the 64s use quite a bit more wattage, which is why you see so many people flash to the 56, same performance with less wattage.

But if you are running the 64 bios you need to treat the card a little different. Mainly you need memory at 960 and leave SOC blank. with 960 mem that setting should get like 175-180.

@ikledude Ya I agree with LC 1440 / 960 or 1407 /930 if you want to turn some cards up.

for dropping wattage, i’d just try 861 vdd and any that crash get 868…875. Any that stay up for a day there get 855…850.

Ok this will be a 2 post reply here what I was running and results

hmmm, so I’m thinking the 56 straps are too tight for the 64. Maybe try something like this??

–CL 20 --RAS 30 --RCDRD 14 --RCDWR 12 --RC 42 --RP 14 --RRDS 3
–RRDL 6 --RTP 5 --FAW 12 --CWL 8 --WTRS 4 --WTRL 9 --WR 14
–REF 17000 --RFC 249

Or how does it run with no straps?

So just found something about the “bad cards” that is mentioned a bit in the TRM guide. If you run the command amd-info through the hiveos webportal
image
Then click it once it finishes, you will see that the cards that are under preforming have true effective core value much lower than what its set at.
Looking at these two card’s:

the hashrates make more sence when looking at effective core
Pretty sure this is the “absurd scaling” mentioned in the max hash section of the TRM guide. So only way to improve those will be increase core more.
GPU 3 is my worst example of underperforming the set OCs but even with effective core only running at 1267 it needs nearly 900 vdd, ill have to see how much power it takes to get effective core up to 1300, guessing ill set core to ~ 1380

Update: my cards running RC 37, mem 847 (2 & 5) do not benefit pushing effective core above 1280, 1280 and 1300 both hash at ~179, below 1280 hash drops. So running got those at 1280 & 1277.
GPU 3 running RC 36 did see +8Mh increasing effective core from 1267 to 1300, but it cost 7 watts so not great.

Can confirm that , my hynix msi 56 blower card - is a bad one.

i have also been doing some testing with straps
all other 4 cards are around the 190mhs - with these straps ( samsung memory )
amdmemtweak --CL 20 --RC 36 --RP 11 --WR 14 --CWL 8 --FAW 12 --RAS 20 --REF 65535 --RFC 248 --RTP 5 --RRDL 6 --RRDS 3 --WTRL 9 --WTRS 4 --RCDRD 12 --RCDWR 12

Tried these on the samsungs with mixed results
amdmemtweak --CL 20 --RC 36 --RP 11 --WR 14 --CWL 8 --FAW 12 --RAS 20 --REF 65535 --RFC 248 --RTP 5 --RRDL 6 --RRDS 3 --WTRL 9 --WTRS 4 --RCDRD 13 --RCDWR 12 TESTED - give 1mhs less

I have tried turning up the Core/Mem on the samsungs with no success. i could try the VDD but im comfortable for the time being with the MHS and Watts - would allways like them lower but i find at they crash with less VDD .

Just a note that I’ve found HiveOS 0.6-204 to be very unstable. It especially likes to crash every 2 min especially while I’m sleeping.

I’ve rolled back to 0.6-203 for now.

I’ve been playing around with straps and core clocks on my 7x Vega rig and found that they either prefer mem at 900 or 849.

My Hynix cards seem to be ok on RC 35.

I tried various combos this morning with the aim of 200 but only got up to 195.*~MH 1400/900/960.

  • 190.4 to 195 MH pushed the Wattage up 11.5W per card (at the wall, 92W for 8 cards).
  • thus also increased temps by 2deg C. per card.
  • a few rejected and one card with hardware rejected (the usual suspect card/memory; I could change the --RC 36/37 to resolve).

This may go back to the initial findings a few months ago it wasn’t worth the extra power required.

My quick test this morning at 1420/1440 failed. :confounded:

  • I still need to try VDD above 905 up and keep memory down to save on the errors and memory heat.
Before I continue I need to make sure I’m not pulling too much from one of the PSU’s… :grimacing:

Hello guys, I mined a little bit of Ergo in May, and wanted to continue the job.

All my Vega 64 @ 56 can work easy at 170MH/s, but my Vega 56 it’s only working at 80MHs. I think I’ll have to divide the rig in two… Because mining ergo a 80MHs is not worth, I prefere Etherem.

I’m not paying attention to what HiveOs says about Ergo, I only care about pool report. With high clocks I can go over 200MHs according to HiveOs, but the real performance goes down.

Ya I was messing with the 203 Mh settings yesterday but its 3-4 vdd settings higher then my 198 setting so 5Mh costing 12 additional watts on both cards i tested.

If you do the math its still profitable to increase MH even with that bad of a Hash per watt.
12w x 24 hrs = .288kw/hr x $0.11 per kw.hr = 2.9 cents additional cost
additional 5Mh revenue currently = 12 cents per day

But its too hot out so going with 198 and only on the cards with great cooling.

I found that the effective core has a sweet spot for each memory level and going beyond that provides no additional hash, but often being 10-20 core below the optimal level can result in 1 to 3 less MH at same wattage. More for my notes later but here are the sweetspots I found.

203MH

  • amdmemtweak --CL 20 --RC 36 --RP 11 --WR 14 --CWL 8 --FAW 12 --RAS 20 --REF 65535 --RFC 248 --RTP 5 --RRDL 6 --RRDS 3 --WTRL 9 --WTRS 4 --RCDRD 12 --RCDWR 12

  • Effective Core 1440 (2 best cards set to 1444 core hit 1440 effective)

  • Memory 959
    *Vdd 900-918

198MH

  • Same strap as above ^

  • Effective Core 1405 (settings same 2 cards to 1409 gets 1405 effective)

  • Memory 930
    *VDD 875-900

183MH (samsung)

  • amdmemtweak --CL 20 --RC 36 --RP 11 --WR 14 --CWL 8 --FAW 12 --RAS 20 --REF 65535 --RFC 248 --RTP 5 --RRDL 6 --RRDS 3 --WTRL 9 --WTRS 4 --RCDRD 10 --RCDWR 8

  • Effective core 1300-1305 (settings range from 1304-1374)

  • mem 847 / SOC 850 OR if running that strap with RC 37 mem 875 no soc

  • vdd 837-868

Hello!

new to mining and trying to setting up the ERGO mining, but somehow i am getting very bad numbers?

i tried setting up at first setup but numbers arent even close??

i am doing something very wrong??
