How to replace desktop environment?

I wanted to figure this out on my own but have not been able to do so.

Specifically, I would like to add KDE Plasma Desktop as my desktop GUI environment. Is this simply impossible? I’ve attempted to do so through command line
$ apt-get install plasma-desktop

If anyone knows how to replace the default desktop environment, please let me know. Thanks!

I have been searching for a better gui also. I download gnome, but got a black screen. I can’t find much help.

I installed KDE, all I get is a black screen with a mouse pointer. Control+Alt F1 I can log in. Still no desktop gui. Reflashing
