Do I need to power the riser

Hey

I’ve got some 2060 supers single 8 pins on them, by accident I forgot to plug in the power to the riser on one if the cards and it seemed happy enough.

My question is do I need to power the riser ?

Thanks

ATX specifications require the PCIe slot to supply up to 75 watts. May be it’s working now but you might have some stability issue at some point when the card is pulling more power.

the same question I have in mind…

if each of my cards (3060) are limited to 120W and the 8pin delivers 150W, do I still need to power the pcie 1x riser?

i can’t find online an answer for it… is the GPU taking first power from the pcie riser and the rest of the power requirement from the 8pin cable or in the absence of the power supply from the riser, the 8pin will supply the amount of energy needed?
